Adorable? Seriously? And here I thought your intelligence was on par with the Rosalind I know but I guess I was wrong. I've pioneered TONS of stuff as a matter of fact. I built a Pons system out of scrap parts and used it to create a neural link with an alien species to stop them from invading my world. I saved my entire PLANET.
It's nice to see you're capable of admitting you're wrong. You're right, my intelligence likely isn't on par with hers. I exceed it.
Now, tell me more about your Pons system. How did you stop them via neural link? Some kind of mental virus? Or did you influence theri way of thinking?
He's not sure what he's feeling. It's been a long time since he got to spare with anyone like this, and he's off his game. He must be, because it's not as satisfying as it usually is.
Which is definitely not a product of how shit he's been feeling recently, no.]
Ugh whatever. You really dont but like go off I guess. I wish but I didn't have the equipment for that sort of thing. My project wasn't exactly approved by the marshall hence the spare parts so I had to do everything kind of under the radar. And on a time crunch. It was more of a recon mission. Turns out the Kaiju were part of a hivemind so I was able to slip in there and yank out all the necessary information to close the portal between our worlds so they couldnt keep sending monsters after us.
[But oh, that's actually interesting. Very interesting, both in terms of this man and her other self. No matter what universe she resides in, it seems, R. Lutece manages to do interesting things. But of course she does.]
Strip mining, basically. Their world is out of resources and they were trying to exterminate us so they could harvest our planet. Kind of your typical alien invasion story if I'm being honest. Like it checks out and all but I gotta say I was kind of disappointed.
I'm certain they'll take that critique under advice for the next planet they invade.
That's rather fascinating, though. Did you learn much about them? What about the things they sent through, did your scientists get a chance to study them? Did I?
They better. They should listen to me I'm the only one whose ever been able to quote unquote make contact. Um well the timing of me ending up here was pretty bad. It had only been like uhh a day or so since I did the first drift. The last thing I remember from home is the post-canceling-the-apocalypse party and even thats a blur since as you can imagine there was a lot of alcohol and I mean I hadn't slept in like Man idk an amount of hours. Days maybe. Probably like two days but it's tough to be sure. Anyway yes I learned a ton about them but Oh you meant like in general not just from the drift right okay so yeah in that case yeah we learned a lot. It was just me and you and Hermann left of the K-science division. I'm the biologist and you and Hermann covered the physics of the portal. We called it the breach. This is not license for you to make fun of me again but studying the Kaiju was not exactly a priority in the minds of PPDC so you and Hermann got all the attention. PPDC being pan pacific defense corps. We were in charge of like defending earth and stuff.
I wish I could say I was surprised by the priorities of the PPDC, but people are people regardless of universes, I suppose. What were their priorities, if not studying their invading forces? Closing the breach, obviously, but I assume people were being killed by the creatures-- kaiju?-- they sent through.
Oh.
No.
They were stupid about it, weren't they? They went for immediate destruction, via using the largest guns instead of cleverly.
Yep you got it. Despite brute force not solving the problem for over a decade everyone was still like hmmm what if we just punch them into leaving us alone?? More realistically efforts were concentrated on closing the breach yeah but then PPDC decided to cut the Jaeger program in favor of the wall of life which yeah it's as idiotic as it sounds. The first Kaiju that encountered it tore it down in like seven seconds.
I'd like to know more about those aliens, but I think that a task better suited in person. I imagine they're difficult to describe, never mind over text.
Tell me instead: how did we go from colleagues to sleeping together?
[Oh my god. Well, she certainly shares his world's Rosalind's penchant for drifting haphazardly between subjects as she pleases.]
Uhh thats a broad question. You made the first move. I mean I was into you from the second you started working with us but idk.
[He takes a moment to really think about the chain of events there. Why did he wait for Ros to take initiative? That's unlike him. He's never really considered it before.]
I didnt want to piss you off I guess. I liked working with you. We got along pretty well all things considered like we could fight but it wasn't personal you know? So many people take everything personally. So we went in more of a friendly direction than a casual fling direction and I didn't want to mess that up. Oh but yeah one day you just like told me to come to your bunk lol it was out of the blue and there wasn't much fanfare we just like had sex. It was awesome don't get me wrong I just didnt see it coming. And since it didn't suck and I didn't make it weird we started to repeat the experience. At least I'm assuming I didnt make it weird? You're like way particular about that you didnt want anyone to know what we were getting up to which honestly doesn't seem like a big deal to me but whatever you know? I'll keep that secret I don't care one way or the other so why not. It kept you happy lol. Plus sneaking around is kinda fun.
[That makes a surprising amount of sense. If she was in a world that was slightly less restrictive, if she'd found someone with whom she felt some sort of companionship, if she was in a world without Robert . . . yes, she could rather see herself taking someone so bluntly to bed. Sex isn't a necessity by any means, but it is enjoyable, especially with a partner with whom she can fight.
Hmm.]
I likely simply didn't want my reputation to be marred by anyone knowing anything so personal about me. God forbid I should have sex with anyone.
Honestly, though, he appreciates how straightforward she is about it. It'll be better to get these issues sorted before she moves in, won't it? At least they'll then know where they stand with each other.]
Uhh I mean the short answer is no? I'm not opposed to it for the record Im just not expecting it. Like hearing all this has gotta be weird for you.
It's . . . strange, yes. Not unfathomable with you, but strange. Though truthfully, This isn't the first time someone has told me they've known another version of me. It isn't even the first time they've had sex with me, actually, although that was . . .
Different.
[For starters, it was an alien, so. That was weird. Anyway.]
In any case. So long as you don't expect me to leap into your bed. I've had quite enough for that for the past six months.
I really really don't. Like I want to make that super clear just because the you I know was sleeping with me doesnt mean I assume we're heading down that road or that you like idk owe me that or something thats way gross. Actually there was another version of me here at some point so I can kind of relate. No one slept with me as far as I know but still its a weird position to be in so like I'm sorry. That youre dealing with that now. And that it's weird. Wait what do you mean not unfathomable with me?
I mean it isn't inconceivable, based upon what I know of you, gleaned from the few conversations we've had. You're intelligent, can hold your own in an argument, and taller than me. Three qualities to which I'm usually attracted.
"After all this"? Newt, I just came from a city where everyone was encouraged to sleep with one another, among other things. A little talk of you and I is nothing. Certainly not enough to keep me from moving in.
Well idk just like making sure. Sex is one thing and having a complicated relationship with someone because of weird alternate dimension stuff is another. But look Im a lot of things and shy is not one of them. You're not allowed to eat my pets though lol. I mean specimens. Oh btw some of the stuff in the house could be considered dangerous like the mimic kind of regularly tries to kill me so uh I'll show you how to deal with the lil shit.
Omfg please dont jump straight to killing it though I've manage to keep it alive for like a year thats so impressive. It can like turn into stuff though. It turns into a coffee mug all the time to try to tempt me into opening the cage.
It's smart but not that smart. It tends to copy stuff it seems me interacting with a lot. I did some experimenting with it. After a couple hours in the living room instead of its bedroom it started turning into my keyboard. That's fair like if it gets out and comes after you do what you gotta do just like it's not that hard to catch I've done it a bunch of times. But uhh lemme swing by the lab and grab the cart and then I'll be over. Remind me where you live?
