week 1 - bellamy - wednesday morning

[Newt is up early (sleeping is hard tbh) and after a hefty day of exploration yesterday... is off to continue that trend. Today's focus: The cave! He didn't get a chance to really check it out in as much depth as he wanted to earlier in the week.

He's minding his own business, sifting through sea shells and wanting desperately to check out that underground pool, but he's being a good science boy and sticking close to the mouth of the cavern. For now, anyway.]

Funny, I was thinking the same about her. So, what, you're her errand boy? That's sweet of you. I was worried about her getting around on that leg.

[Bellamy rolls his eyes.]

I'm gonna give you a tip. If you tell Raven you're worried about her because of her leg, you're not going to like what happens.

[He thinks Newt would totally deserve getting decked for it, too.]

Okay, so she can take care of herself. Good to know. [It's a little sarcastic.] Why you and not her, then?

Does it matter? Are you willing to help or not?

[As irritating as he finds Bellamy, Newt isn't stupid. Grudges can't get in the way of survival, and this guy is actively helping out with that. That's... a point in his favor. A small point, but a point nonetheless.]

Yeah, of course. [He's not chipper, exactly, but he's willing.] What do you need from me?

Raven thinks the AIs might be connected to a mainframe somewhere on the island. If we can find it, she can take it out. And if things go south, we watch each other's backs. Deal?

Yeah, she mentioned that. [Vaguely. Newt is gonna roll with being in the know, anyway. He nods.]

I can do that. We breaking into the Chief's hut, then?

[jettisons]

Tried that. We couldn't manage it. Raven can make a bomb if we get her the supplies, otherwise we're combing the island.

Raven told me. [HE'S IN THE KNOW.] We're working on the bomb thing. She mentioned we can make a bomb with seashells and water. [And chemistry but hahaha he shouldn't have to explain SCIENCE of course Bellamy knows this basic chemical reaction.]

The mainframe's probably hidden somewhere hard to find. Hiro and I were chasing a portal theory on that basis, too, but it hasn't panned out yet. Most likely candidates are the volcano, this cave at the bottom of that pool, or maybe in the jungle. Somewhere. It's a big island.

[It's not, really, but it's big enough to require more than a quick jaunt through the forest.]

[Bellamy is nodding along, except!]

What portal theory?

We all had to get here somehow. If this is place is real, we don't seem to be located anywhere that anyone's familiar with. I've got some experience with interdimensional wormholes, so that's my best guess as to how we got here. Assuming this isn't an elaborate simulation, that is.

[He has a few theories.]

The simulation doesn't track. Raven and I were stuck on a barely functioning space station with five other people.

[So, no one around to run a simulation.]

How would the wormhole work?

[Newt thinks for a moment.] Not sure how those two things are related. Something interdimensional is going on regardless, seeing as we're all here from different places, simulation or no. [A pause.] Unless we've been implanted with false memories or something, but... [He looks down at the tats on his arms.] That seems unlikely.

[Sort of. It's technically more likely than interdimensional travel, but it's also way scarier. Tabling that for now!]

Depends on the wormhole. The Breach back home connected us to the Anteverse, and only the Kaiju could pass through it. It wouldn't open without their specific generic signature. There's no way of knowing how a wormhole might function here until we find the thing and run some tests.

[Like throwing stuff at it to see if anything goes through. SCIENCE!]

So how do we find a wormhole, exactly? Tell me it's easy.

[He needs some good news.]

[Newt scoffs.]

It's not gonna be easy, dude. What's the point of dropping us here if it's easy to get out? Hiro and I think it'll be hidden somewhere near-impossible for us to get to. This makes even more sense knowing that the Chiefs are robots. I bet they could, say, jump into a volcano or swim way out to sea without even batting an eye.

[Bellamy rolls his eyes. This guy is Wick levels of patronizing and up his own ass.]

If we can get Raven access to their code, she can shut them down. I've seen her deal with worse than this.

[Yeah well he's got the brains to back up the arrogance, at least! (surely this is a thing that is true)]

Oh yeah? It gets worse than this?

[Bellamy shakes his head, as though in disbelief.]

It gets much worse than this. Let's hope they don't start torturing us.

[Wow, Bellamy, cheery!]

Alright, yeah, it can always get worse. I meant our status of being detached from reality as we all know it.

[Yeah, that's fair.]

So, do you know how we're supposed to reattach ourselves?

Depends on how we've been detached in the first place.

[Which... isn't something he's sure he can figure out, but he's not about to admit that.]

If it's a simulation, we find a way to break it. Glitch it out. If this island really is another universe, we find out how we got here and try to replicate that in reverse.
