week 3 - kyouko - saturday post-trial

[God, what a mess of a trial that was... Newt got out of there pretty quickly after he'd been sentenced to death, but now he's wishing he would've hung around to at least get the details. He'd love to have something, anything to think about that isn't his impending death. If he had gotten some information out of Battler or Jack, maybe... His friends could've used his brain for one more night, at least.

But then: Being alone for the moment is nice too. He's sitting on the beach, playing idly with the sand as he stares out across the water. He wonders how far he could get if he started swimming. Maybe he should just get the inevitable over with, but... He's not brave enough for that.

He'll make the rounds, eventually. Say goodbye to his friends, pass along words of wisdom, or... whatever. This is okay, though, for the moment. This is kind of nice. Kind of.]

[ while she doesn't follow immediately, instead quizzing the roles and speaking quietly about them, kyouko does go looking at least for newt. this is different from the murder game she'd lived through; there, executions were immediate and only got the culprit. of course, that was because they had the evidence to hunt them down.

spinning her wheels here, she doesn't like it. ]

[He doesn't look up when Kyouko approaches. He recognizes her voice, that's good enough.]

Newt's fine.

...Newt, then. [ asking if he's fine would be Stupid, so. ] Is there anything you need done?

[completelycrazy]

[He laughs dryly.] Stage a coup and get a recount on those votes. After I change mine to Laura, though. Or just stage a coup and get us all out of here.

[He picks up a handful of sand and lets it trickle slowly out of his fist. A better distraction would be great.]

Who'd you vote for?

Mera. I should have tried harder to make certain as to what everyone was doing, but -

Huh. [He does look up at her now. Interesting choice.] Why Mera? Because of the strength thing?

Yes. But also - I didn't think the "Jack" theory held any water whatsoever.

[ ...AND SINCE IT WAS 2 INNOCENTS AND A DETECTIVE, THAT...WAS APPARENTLY RIGHT? ]

Yeah, I didn't either, but... I voted for Battler. Everyone seemed to be leaning toward my partner's doppelganger. I was banking on more of them listening to reason and not voting for any of the actual Jacks. A majority with Battler would've kept all three Jacks from going down.

[Including him. He's very bitter.]

I knew the theory was bullshit, but that's where the majority was swaying and I knew we couldn't trust the Chiefs with the Jack votes. [He shakes his head.] These people really are idiots. At least we got one of the Sirens. I was right.

[Even if he tripped and fell into it.]

Even being told to vote for partners...

[ moron island prevailed ]

...well. If they stop trusting the theories supported by and pushed forth by the Sirens, they'll stand a chance.

Huh. You think a Siren set that up? Who's a Siren?

[He's too hung up on his impending death to remember how that whole thing shook out...]

...Why would Battler try to get us to vote for the other Jack? They were partners. Jack going down means he goes down too.

That wasn't exactly the theory I meant so much as...I believe that among those supporting that theory, there had to have been other Sirens. Their "win conditions" - they have to do with whittling us down to size, no?

[completelycrazy]

Yeah, I guess. [He's maybe just like a little bitter that he's getting swept in this whittling.]

So who else supported the Jack theory and voted for them?
