week 3 - raven - friday post-investigation

[Two bodies. That's... Well, that's something. Newt got lucky this week in that he didn't know any of the victims (or the, uh, victims-to-be...), but apparently a lot of his friends did. Since he's got some distance, he's doing what he can to take care of the others, but man, grief counseling is tiring.

Finally, he's on his way back to the huts. That's when he runs into Raven. Huh. She looks more sullen than usual. Man, not here, too... These poor kids.]

Hey. You doing okay?

[She looks over at him as he approaches. She might have teared up earlier, but it's not enough to make her eyes red or puffy, luckily. Even so... She definitely doesn't look her best. She's armed with the pencil and paper the Chiefs gave her, and after a moment of deliberation, she writes down a message for him.]

I will be.

[But she isn't right now.]

[Oh. Newt frowns. He hasn't had a chance to talk to Raven since that huge group returned from their various expeditions, so this is a new development for him.]

Can you... not talk? What happened?

[She has probably been through this line of questioning like a million times by now, but he's asking anyway.]

Katara told me about those, uh, bugs? She said she got stung and that's what took off her arm. They get you too?

[She nods, then kind of pantomimes sticking her finger down her throat, as if to show that one flew inside.]

Not fun, but I'll live. I'm sure it'll heal soon.

[He grimaces, accompanied by an "eugh" because wow gross?]

I hope so. I've never seen anything like that. [But he's seen a lot of stuff in the past couple of weeks that he'd never seen before, so he doesn't sound particularly thrown by this, either.

Anyway.]

Did you, um, know either of them? Mello and Lelouch.

Not either of them particularly well. I know one of their partners, though.

[And that's definitely throwing her.]

Oh. I'm sorry. Keith and, uh, Hayner? I talked to Keith a little, but I don't think he likes me very much. [He shrugs. He doesn't seem all that offended.]

Is Keith the one your friends with? [That just seems to make the most sense given what he knows of everyone in question here.]
