week 3 - yona - friday post-investigation

[Newt has been looking everywhere for Yona, and he can't find her. He's getting worried.

But then he remembers that there are some new spots for him to check, and he finally spots her heading down the jungle path to the flower field. Phew.]

Yona, hey. Thanks for calling me over when you found that body. [That is a blatant lie but he's glad she didn't have to deal with it, at least. He is thankful for that.]

Are you, um... [Okay? Dumb question.] Were you and Lelouch friends?

You're welcome. It... even from a distance, it seemed like it... needed more expertise than I had.

[And she wasn't sure how much Prussia knew about that sort of thing. Calling for Newt had been her first impulse - and she's not exactly glad he had to see that, but she is very glad that he was there.]

...I don't know if he'd have called me his friend. But... we talked frequently, and I liked him. [...] He could be sort of abrasive... but he meant well, I think.

I didn't learn much from it either, if I'm being honest, but I'd rather you not have to get your hands dirty if I can help it.

[He nods.] I'm sure he did. Abrasive doesn't bother me, and like, abrasive is a perfectly reasonable reaction to being trapped on this crappy island. But, uh, I didn't get a chance to talk to him much. I'm sorry that he's gone.

[cutefaced]

...I don't think anyone is going to be able to keep their hands completely clean here. [She smiles a little sadly. It would be nice if they could, but...] I appreciate that, though. It's very kind of you.

[Her smile vanishes a moment later, and she sighs.]

I think it's a normal reaction, too. But... do you remember... [She hesitates.] At the last trial... when people were talking about who seemed suspicious.

Lelouch and Mello aren't the only ones whose names came up, but... both of them were named.

And... and now they're both...

[Dead.]

Does that... seem strange to you at all?

[...Oh. Newt hadn't put those pieces together yet. The latter half of the trial was kind of a blur for him; after he'd gotten in that screaming match with Bellamy, he mostly just retreated and let the others bicker themselves in circles.]

Good catch. That is strange. [...] You'd think that the killer would want to keep Mello and Lelouch alive then, right? Or, killers, I guess... Why kill the people that were attracting attention? Seems smarter to just hang back and let them distract everyone.
