[Magnus can find Newt in the Center St. Entrance, sitting on a busted vending machine with his head in his hands. If he notices him approach, he doesn't show it.]

[Newt gives Magnus one of his classic eyerolls that he's been giving people all game because he's a one-trick pony. It's halfhearted, though.]

Trying to not to think about how close I came to dying just now. [...] Do you honestly think I killed Jacopo?

Honestly? I don't know. My gut says you don't have it in you. But there's no one here who I look at and think, yeah. That makes sense. So I don't know if I should be following my gut on this one.

When you said we shouldn't focus on who killed Jacopo, that's what tipped it for me. If there was any murder we solved today, it should've been that one. You know why?

[No, and he doesn't want to know. But.]

Same as why we shoulda caught Caren and Chuuya last week. Next week, or the week after, someone's going to die 'cause we didn't solve that one.

[Newt snorts.]

No kidding. Monika's going to flay me alive, I'm pretty sure. [He shakes his head.] But that doesn't mean it's any different than Chuuya's death. A Reaper did do him in. Why isn't that more important?

[ruffboi]

I don't even know if catching the Reapers is what we were supposed to be doing. Sounds to me like in some way, Jacopo trusted them. I wasn't part of that, but -

[Sighing, crossing and uncrossing his arms.]

Frankly, I don't care what it is we're supposed to do. But I think we should probably stop having three separate people killing every week. To start. Anyway. If it wasn't you, we need to figure out who it was, don't we?

Why? So they don't kill again? [Newt scoffs.] After this week's shitshow, I highly doubt that's going to be a problem.

[But, urgh. He knows he's just being combative because he's feeling too many things right now. He sighs, rakes his hands through his hair.]

Whatever. You're right. People need to, I don't know, do a better job of trusting each other. Players fighting Players isn't going to get us anywhere.

It seems to me, that the Reapers have to kill someone every week. They may not want to, but they have to. Now, that doesn't make me feel very sympathetic to them. I wouldn't kill just because a dead guy told me to. But it also seems to me that the Conductor, or whoever, has ways of making the rest of us kill, too.

We at least have some control over that one, don't we? We need to trust each other. So we need to know which sick asshole, who wasn't facing erasure, tortured our best source of information.
