week 1 - vriska - tuesday night
[It's been a long day, so Newt heads down to the beach to hang out by the water while he listens to music. Having this little iPod thing is nice, though he's not sure how long the battery's gonna hold... He doubts the Chief will hook him up with a charger. Tragic.
Oh well. May as well take advantage while he can.
He's laying around in the sand (he is sO TIRED of sand already but there's no avoiding it, argh) with his earbuds in, trying to parse out any remotely familiar constellations in the stars above. It's picturesque and all, but he'd like it better if it was recognizable. Man, what a downer.]

anyway, his question makes her look thoughtful, and she's quiet for a space of time. ]
I don't know yet, [ she says, and it has the ring of honesty. ] I mean, for now, probably? I'll be honest with you. If someone on this island tries to bump me off, I have no qualms about killing them in self-defense if it's necessary. Beyond that, though... I guess my real focus will be on figuring a way out of this game. What about you?

I'm not about to murder anyone just for the hell of it, and I don't see how me killing anyone would help any of us get out of here, but if push comes to shove... We have to do what we have to do. There's no point in lying down and taking it.
[He thinks for a moment, playing with the earbud cord as he does.] If I'm gonna die, the least I can do is fight back and maybe try to leave some kind of clue as to who my killer is. That'll at least help the rest of you get out of here.

You've got spine. More than I would have expected from your run-of-the-mill human. I'd be willing to wager you have probably seen some shit.

Didn't I tell you about how I saved the world? [did he?? he has no idea but he's pretty sure the whole island has heard about how great and brave he is at this point AND IT'S ONLY TUESDAY...]
I've been living in a world that's been under constant and immediate threat of destruction for more than a decade. That kind of prognosis really does a number on your psyche after a while.

[ Vriska will lift both her eyebrows, smiling slightly. ]
I would like to hear how you got out of that one. Personally, as you keep pointing out!
you asked for this
[He takes his own advice and gets comfortable. He's not even sure where to start, really. Having to explain what Kaiju even are is not something he's ever expected to have to do. It's so wild being on an island full of people who've never even heard of them.]
So, Earth's been under attack for the past eleven years or so. These massive aliens, the Kaiju, were coming up out of the ocean through this thing called the Breach, a wormhole that connected our universe to the Anteverse. The Kaiju are huge, and when they first started coming through, we didn't really have a fix for it. The first one leveled three cities before we were able to take it down, and even that took three nukes.
[He could yell about how awesome Trespasser was all day, but, moving on... He's very much talking with his hands now, his voice brightening. Kaiju are so flipping cool, even if they're also, like, horrifying.]
Anyway, humankind banded together because the apocalypse was nigh, blah blah, we made the Jaeger program. Giant fighting robots specifically designed to fight the Kaiju. [He shrugs. The Jaegers are overrated.] They're the heroes, according the the world, but when I get back, I'm going to make sure everyone knows it was my research that sealed the deal. I'm a xenobiologist. I've been studying the Kaiju, trying to find weaknesses or clues that might help us figure out how to stop them.
After the last Kaiju attack, we were able to harvest a viable chunk of brain from the corpse, so I built this thing called a Pons system out of junk parts I stole out of storage. A Pons system is what the Jaeger pilots use to--wait, did I explain Drifting? Crap. Uh. Long story short, a Pons system allows two people to link brains. I used that to link brains with the Kaiju specimen, so I was able to figure out how to close the Breach, ergo, I saved the world. The Jaeger pilots would've been useless if they didn't have the info I was able to give them because I was the only one brave enough to risk the experiment.
[And he doesn't even sound as up his own ass as he usually does when explaining how great he is!]
I also met a Kaiju. Like, face to face. She almost killed me. Oh, they look like this, by the way. [He rolls over to show her the tattoos on his forearms.] That's Atticon and Yamarashi. The one I Drifted with was Mutavore, and the one I met was Otachi, but I haven't had a chance to get ink of them yet.
