[Free money is cool, but it'd be nice if there was better stuff to spend it on. Newt is thoroughly unimpressed with Shibuya's offerings until he wanders into I Glitterally Can't and finds something he forgot he was looking for: Markers.

It takes him a little while to track down Mary (she smol), but he jogs over to her once he does. He's got the markers hidden in his jacket pocket.]

Hey, Mary, got a surprise for you. You up to anything right now?

[Newt lets out a little oof as she tackles him. He hugs her back just as tightly.]

Hey, you're welcome. I hope you've been tossing around ideas for the new tattoo you're gonna give me. Ready whenever you are, kiddo.

[withsadness]

Of course I have!

[Hell, she's practically a professional.]

Show me the leg! The leg!

[completelycrazy]

[oh my god this child.]

Hah, okay, okay. Gimme a sec.

[Newt is wearing his try-hard skinny fucking corduroy pants so uhhh give him a minute to roll that pantleg up... He manages it after a minute, only able to reveal like two-thirds of his calf, but it'll have to do. He's not about to take off his pants in front of a little girl.

The skin on said leg is indeed blank! But Mary might be able to see the edges of red swirls poking out here and there from his knee area. He lays his leg out on the bus seat.]

Did you decide where you want yours?

[withsadness]

[The hardest part is going to be picking the best color. She taps her chin as she looks at her canvas and considers.]

I was thinking maybe the back of my neck, if that's okay! Because then there will always be someone watching my back.

[completelycrazy]

[Good luck drawing on his hairy manleg, Mary.]

Really? You don't want it somewhere you can see it?

[withsadness]

I can buy a mirror, and other people can describe it to me. And you can draw me a picture of how he looks, too!

[She hesitates, her eyes moving back up to Newt's face again.]

Is that a stupid idea?

[Okay, clearly she's thought this through. He smiles.]

No, it's not stupid. The mirror's a good call, and I can totally draw you a picture. I'll put it in your rulebook so you don't lose it. Is that okay?

[withsadness]

Yay! That's perfect!

[It's really helpful that Newt basically goes along with everything she says. It's a promising start to their relationship. She leans on her elbows over his manly hairy leg with her lips pressed together in thought, and ultimately she picks out a few different markers and goes to town. Drawing on people is new, so she'll be more careful and take longer than normal, and won't talk too much until she's done.

What he ends up with isn't something I want to actually design so we'll say that it's an almost fluffy-looking blue creature with big red eyes and a red smile and big big red hands for grabbing. She gives the eyes nice big black pupils, of course, to give it a more realistic gaze (she's dedicated to her scribbles).]

[Mary is apparently concentrating very hard as she draws so Newt decides not to bug her. He watches intently, doing his best not to fidget too much (but he still fidgets a lot, whoops).

When she's done, he tilts his leg to get a better look at her work.]

Oh, hey, that's pretty awesome. [Also mildly horrifying? Jeez, Mary. Newt can't really talk, though. He's already covered in scary monsters.] I like those colors. You want me to use these colors for yours, too?

[withsadness]

[Thank you for not criticizing her terrible taste. Scary can be cute too, probably.]

I like those colors, but...you can use which ever ones inspire you the most! Becaaaaause the monster will be the best guardian if it's truly inspired from your heart!

[She pauses, beaming, as she tries to wrangle up her massive hair.]

You know that some people say that you can put pieces of yourself into your artwork if it really means a lot to you.

[Meanwhile Newt rolls down his pantleg because all that tight ass corduroy was definitely cutting off some circulation. Then he pauses too, considering his color options.]

Hm... I like blue too, but let's get some orange and purple in there. Get comfortable, okay? This'll probably take me a little bit. I'm not an expert like you are.

[withsadness]

Okay!

[She's a very good canvas (like, yeah), so she holds still as she settles in with her back to him, ultimately separating her hair down the center and holding it in front of her with two hands.]

I can be patient.

[completelycrazy]

[She is indeed a good canvas, but also a very small one, so it takes Newt a minute to figure out his gameplan before she'll feel the cold press of a marker on the back of her neck. He's just winging this, unfortunately(?) for Mary.

He also doesn't need to work in silence, so he strikes up a totally innocent conversation while he draws.]

So, uh... You heard what that kid Max was saying, right? About how there's a bunch of these "Reapers" among us, apparently? [...] You don't know anything about that, do you?

Uh-huh.

[Incredibly smooth.]

I don't...but it sounds pretty scary, doesn't it?

Yeah, I don't either.

[...He's hoping they're on the same page? Maybe?]

It does sound scary, yeah. But I think we'll be safe enough if we just stick together. It's gonna be way harder for Reapers to hurt anyone if we travel in packs, y'know?

[Oh Week 0 Newt, you sweet summer child.]

[Depends on what the page is, honestly. Who could really say. It's a wild two weeks.]

So if we always always always stay with our friends, there's no way anything bad can happen?

[Uh oh.]

Um... Well, I don't know if I'd say that? But I think sticking together will definitely help us all stay safe, yeah.
