A control room would make sense before dumping us on the island. And once we "die", in theory, we're just pulled somewhere else until we can leave the simulation. It almost sounds too easy but maybe it really is that simple.

He's still fascinated by giant robots so the idea of a giant fighter bot fighting real kaiju is pretty much everything he could dream of. That makes a lot of sense. The Jaeger is just a catalyst for the pilot's brains so they can fight. For something that big it would need more than one person. And if one goes down and the other is left to man the Jaeger they could be overpowered. And in our case that would mean we could all get stuck here instead.
