week 4 - lenka - saturday, post-trial

[Lenka can find Newt in the Center St. Entrance, sitting on a busted vending machine with his head in his hands. If he notices him approach, he doesn't show it.]

[And Lenka's going to come right up to him, making no effort to hide his presence, but he also doesn't get around to actually trying to alert Newt to his presence before he speaks. He ends up looming a bit because the vending machine is way down there.]

Dr. Geiszler.

[There's a pause.]

I'm glad you're here.

[Still here, at least. No matter what happened during trial, that's his kneejerk reaction right now. They've clashed as much as they've had to figure out how to work with each other and the rest of this ragtag team that keeps getting smaller. He's okay with holding on to that for now.]

[Newt looks up, relieved that it's just Lenka.]

You can call me Newt, you know.

[He gives a small huff. It would be amused on other days; it's just sort of a sigh, here.]

It's sort of a habit. A weird one.

[Even he's aware of this. Anyway:]

I'll remember. The trial was... [he shakes his head] I didn't agree with it. I still don't.

Yeah, well... It's my name.

[He shrugs.]

So you don't think I did it, is what you're saying?

I don't.

[It's that simple, for now.]

You want to find the Reapers. So did Jacopo. There was no reason for you to kill him.

[Barring further earthshaking revelations or something -- but regardless, he hasn't been banking on those, and won't.]

[Well, that's a relief.]

I meant what I said too, you know. If I wanted information out of him, I'd just have talked to the guy. I don't know why that's so hard to believe.

We've... ignored it so far a lot, haven't we? Why people did it.

[That's part of why it feels like they've been getting lucky. There's some guesses based on the evidence, that maybe weren't so guesses given half of them seem to have secret information, but...]

We didn't understand Reapers, or the Game, so that was all we could do. We understand a little more now.

[A lot more, actually, but apparently not enough, still.]

The Reapers are ordered to kill. There hasn't been a reason to worry about "why" until now.

[Not overtly, anyway. Not on the personal level.]

A little more, sure, but not much. And, honestly? I'm worried that all these new developments are just going to confuse the issue further.

They already did, I think.

[He's still not sure whether all those bombshells helped or hindered in the last trial. In the end it was still impossible to figure out anything concrete about the demise of the actual Reaper or the Reaper-killer.

Speaking of new developments, though...]

Izaya was, uh. He and Monika were working together, right?

[Should he bring this up. That was a clusterfuck all around. Maybe we shouldn't use clusterfuck to describe that.]
