[God, what a disaster Newt has been running around checking in with various folks since the whole... head on a spike... thing... and he figures he should track down Lief to touch base. The guy seems pretty level-headed. Time to more officially form a crowd control coalition.
The last thing this island needs is a mutiny, even if Hal and Pal unequivocally suck.
He eventually spots Lief hanging out on the beach, so Newt jogs up to get his attention.]
Hey, man. You got a minute?

Hey, man. You got a minute?
no subject
(Which he doesn't want to think about.)
Still, he nods.]
What is it?
no subject
Damn. That's not... your blood, is it?
[He'll get to his point in a minute. Priorities.]
no subject
Somewhat lamely,]
I found Haru's torso. [a beat] She was stabbed a few times, it seems.
[Yeaaaah.]

I'm double impressed that you're able to stay as cool as you are, then. [He would be losing his mind but he's not gonna say that, it's just implied.]
Speaking of, things are already tense as hell around here. That, uh, move the Chief pulled didn't help. We need to get a handle on this mass panic thing before we really start to devolve.
no subject
... It served its purpose well in aggravating everyone. I do not want to think of what tomorrow will be like, when we have to accuse not the Chiefs but one another instead.
no subject
That's what I'm worried about, too. The chiefs are the real enemies here, but... If we're got people in our ranks willing to dismember a corpse like that, we're in more trouble than I thought.
no subject
[Ugh.]
Tensions will be even higher tomorrow. People will undoubtedly be arguing with one another.
no subject
[But also, quit pointing out the obvious, Lief.]
Of course we're going to be arguing. A girl's dead, and her partner's done for as per the rules, and we need to vote for someone to execute. Maybe two, depending. The Chief wasn't exactly forthcoming as to how the partner system works with executions.
[Ugh indeed.]
The real question is, what do we do about it?
no subject
[...]
I do not know yet. If it were my friends, I would know how to keep them from fighting, but a group of near strangers, all with different backgrounds and values, is another matter.
no subject
[seriously screw these chiefs. the least they could do is lay out all the rules.]
You know you're not responsible for solving this, right? Yeah, we should probably get ahead of the curve on this, but truth be told, these people are gonna do what they're gonna do. I don't think we can stop 'em. Just... I don't know. Find a way to limit casualties and make sure we work together in the interim.
no subject
We cannot control people's behaviour. I know. I just hope things do not become too ugly tomorrow.
